Dr. Anelia Apostolova is an ophthalmologist with extensive experience of over 25 years in the field. She specializes in consultative examinations and the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases. Her extensive knowledge and commitment to improving eye health is evident through her contributions as the author of numerous articles in the field.

Dr. Apostolova completed her medical education at Sofia Medical University in 1995, subsequently specializing in Ophthalmology in 2006. During her career, she gained additional qualifications through various courses focusing on Emergency Ophthalmology, Pediatric vision, Inflammatory eye diseases, and Diabetes and vision.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Apostolova is actively involved in clinical research, particularly in the field of glaucoma, and has presented her findings at national and international conferences, including in Berlin, Paris, Milan, Copenhagen and Helsinki. Today we will draw from her extensive experience in the field through specific tips for improving vision.

As an ophthalmologist, I often encounter a wide range of concerns from my patients. Among the most common complaints are problems related to dry eyes, which are often made worse by factors such as dry air or prolonged screen time. Red eyes are another common problem that can stem from various allergies, infections like conjunctivitis, and even more serious conditions like glaucoma.

Nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism affect a significant part of the population, resulting in blurred vision and difficulty focusing. These conditions often require corrective measures such as glasses, contact lenses, or even surgery. Cataracts are also a common disease that occurs as we age. A cataract is a cloudy or hazy area found in the lens of your eye (the clear central part of the eye that helps you focus) which reduces your qualiy of vision and increases your sensitivity to light.

Step number 1 is having regular eye exams. They are even more important if your doctor believes you are at risk or already have a specific eye disease.

Taking measures to protect your eyesight doesn’t have to be hard. One easy way to do this is giving your eyes regular breaks to reduce tension and prevent them from dying out. This is especially true for our modern lives where we spend long periods of time in front of screens. To reduce eye fatigue, it’s recommended to take breaks every 20 minutes. During this break, look into the distance, if possible through a window, for at least 20 seconds, trying to blink more than usual to better moisten your eyes.

Another easy way you can help maintain your vision is to do eye exercises. It refers to a series of techniques designed to strengthen eye muscles, improve coordination and relieve symptoms of eye strain or fatigue.

Eye gymnastics (or exercises) involve looking in different directions or purposefully changing the focus of the eyes. For example, after waking up, just look around with your eyes, or make circular movements with your eyes clockwise and counterclockwise. You can do an exercise with changing the focus by choosing two objects at a different distance and changing your focus at least 5 times first on one, then on the other.

Maintaining good vision, as well as taking care of eye diseases, also largely depends on the sufficient availability of certain important nutrients, vitamins and minerals. A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables and omega-3 fatty acids is important to support eye health. I also often recommend Neovista Next to my patients. This supplement includes key and proven ingredients to support the structures of the eye and strong antioxidants that protect the eyes from harmful external factors.

Protecting our eyes from the negative effects of frequent screen use is important for their overall health. As I mentioned before, regular rest is key to reduce eye fatigue and allow them to focus again. Optimizing screen settings is another important aspect. Adjusting brightness, contrast, and font size to comfortable levels can minimize glare and strain. Consider using a matte screen filter to further reduce reflections and glare, especially in brightly lit environments.

Pay attention to the correct lighting of your workspace – the light on your screen should not differ from the surrounding, and the position of the screen should not be in front of bright light sources. For people who spend a lot of time in front of screens, computer glasses with anti-reflective coatings can provide additional protection by reducing glare and filtering blue light. Also consider using blue light filters or glasses.

It’s important to note that there are substances that effectively help protect the eyes from prolonged exposure to blue light from screens. Such are lutein and zeaxanthin, which are part of the specialized composition of Neovista Next. These two substances are specific pigments that accumulate in the retina. Both lutein and zeaxanthin absorb blue light and protect the eye’s photoreceptors. In addition, these two pigments protect the eyes from oxidative stress.

Staying hydrated is also important for overall eye health. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated and prevent dry eyes. Remember to blink regularly. Blinking helps to moisturize the eyes and prevent the dryness that is common with prolonged screen time.

Again, I want to emphasize how beneficial taking supplements can be for your eye health. The Neovista Next supplement provides important minerals for eye health such as zinc and selenium. Zinc is key to the metabolism of vitamin A, which we all associate with eye health. It’s ingredients also includes vitamin C, which is important for the function of the retina. It has protective properties in diseases such as cataracts and its presence protects the lens from harmful UV radiation.

The regular intake of Neovista Next can support the condition of your eyes, both for milder complaints such as dryness and redness, and for delaying more serious diseases. For this reason, I recommend it to patients with various eye complaints and problems.
